The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 3.78 per cent year-on-year in dollar terms in the first four months of fiscal 2020-21 that began on July 1. During the four-month period, Pakistan earned $4.759 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $4.586 billion in July-October 2019-20, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 12.30 per cent year-on-year to $1.183 billion during the four-month period ending October 31, 2020, while exports of non-knit readymade garments rose 4.66 per cent to $947.419 million.
Among textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 40.56 per cent to $230.328 million, as against exports of $387.511 million made during the corresponding period of 2019-20. Exports of cotton fabric also declined by 7.94 per cent and were valued at $624.879 million during July-October 2020.
Bedwear exports, on the other hand, increased by 9.95 per cent to $899.558 million, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports increased 33.71 per cent year-on-year to $193.805 million, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn rose 17.68 per cent to $192.451 million during the period under review. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan decreased by 8.29 per cent year-on-year to $140.512 million during the four-month period.
In fiscal 2019-20 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 6.01 per cent to $12.526 billion over $13.327 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
