The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 7.79 per cent year-on-year in dollar terms in the first half (H1) of fiscal 2020 - 21 that began on July 1. During the six-month period, Pakistan earned $7.442 billion from textile and apparel exports compared to exports of $6.904 billion in July-December 2019-20, according to data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 16.55 per cent year-on-year to $1.849 billion during the six-month period ending December 31, 2020, while exports of non-knit readymade garments rose 5.54 per cent to $1.490 billion.
Among textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 26.36 per cent to $400.730 million, as against exports of $544.148 million made during the corresponding period of 2019-20. Exports of cotton fabric also declined by 7.73 per cent and were valued at $935.009 million during July-December 2020.
Bedwear exports, on the other hand, increased by 16.38 per cent to $1.394 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports increased 25.72 per cent year-on-year to $282.582 million, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn rose 17.44 per cent to $320.364 million during the period under review. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan decreased marginally by 0.52 per cent year-on-year to $230.911 million during the six-month period.
In fiscal 2019-20 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 6.01 per cent to $12.526 billion over $13.327 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
